Disappointed

We have had Distributel for a few years now. In the beginning it was great. It was fast and reliable. Price was great too.
Last couple years it has gone downhill. Had to replace our box a year ago.Internet is slow, cuts out, our speed is not what we pay for.
We got a new TV recently and a couple times now our internet has dropped.
Did a speed test and discovered it was performing way below what it's suppose too.
I noticed they have fiber now, has anyone tried their fiber service? Is it worth switching over to it?

They got bought out by Bell quietly, in December 2023, so they are re-selling Bell's fiber optic infrastructure. They can provide a really good deal for now but it's temporary and entirely reliant on Bell's technicians. The communication is a nightmare. Not worth it.

Source: I signed up and tried to get in installed and it was such a mess, I tried for a couple weeks but then Distributel shut off our old cable internet before the fiber was even installed so we were without internet completely for about 6 days.

Very poor customer service

I signed up with Distributel mid January 2023. Since then I have had nothing but problems with this company. I call to speak to various departments, depending on the issue, but NO one seems to understand what I am asking. I have to keep repeating myself over and over again, and they still don't get it.

I'd love to know what countries they are contracting out their customer service to, because they need to think twice about this. It's very annoying when I speak perfect English but they don't understand the problem I'm having.

I signed up for Internet & Home Phone. It was to be installed Jan 19th. The Bell guy showed up. He couldn't do the installation as there were no copper lines on either side of the house. They were going to have their people come to dig up and install them. I changed my plan to cable instead, costs so much more which I can't afford. Anyway, they did not put in the STOP disconnection order to Rogers on my phone service, and I lost my home phone on the 20th. Thinking it was a Roger's issue I called them. After more than 2 1/2 hrs on hold with one person or another, I find out Distributel did not cancel the cancellation order with Roger's. They guy who set up the cable should have sent a notice to Roger's telling them not to cancel my service until Jan 30th, which is the date now of my installation of the cable service.

I ended up having to use my cell phone to make all kinds of calls. I only have 60 min a month. I only use it for emergencies, very short calls, etc... I NEVER go over the 60 min a month. I'm now more than 3 hrs over my limit, yet Disbributel will not pay for this. They are the ones who screwed the entire thing up. It's their responsibility to pay for this. It is also their responsibility to pay for my overage charges with Roger's from the 19th to the 30th. They are giving me a credit of $108. Not good enough. I want a credit for all the aggravation I have been through since I signed up with them. They have made my life a living HELL.

Once I find another provider that can give me a better price, I will be gone from Distributel and I will NEVER recommend them to anyone. I will tell them to stay as far away from this company as possible. They are NOT employing many people in Canada. They are contracting out to other countries. They should be employing Canadian's FIRST!!!!

Poor Customer Service and Issue Resolution

I signed up with Distributel for Internet and Home Phone via VOIP (with transfer of phone number from previous provider requested). They communicated to me that a technician would contact me on a certain date to complete the set up. Receiving no call or visit, I called customer service. They tranferred me 3x times and I was finally explained that I could of just connected everything myself when I received the equipment...

When I did so, Internet worked fine but when I tried the home phone, I discovered they assigned me a new number and didn't port my current number as I requested...

I called right, got transferred multiple times and had to do a porting request. Which takes a week. Now everything works but I had to keep 2 phone and internet serviced in parallel for a week... Kind of kills some of those costs savings.

So far- really good (day 1); hope nothing changes.

I was very pessimistic about Distributel because of all the -ve reviews on this site. I still gambled. Here are current reviews, I will change/update them if anything changes. Day1:- The box arrived on time, very easy setup (literally plug and play), so far 1/2 price and 2X the internet speed compared to previous provider! I am so far veryyyyyyy happy, fingers crossed- hope it stays like this.

Internet Cable Wars: Battleground Ontario

It has been brewing for a few months. Competition in the Cable Internet segment, especially on Rogers's territory is fierce. This is mainly driven by, ironically Rogers itself by making available to smaller or independent ISP's Speeds that would otherwise look premium. Rogers's strategy seems to be working as small ISPs as VMedia or Velcom go neck a neck with other medium-sized internet companies such as TekSavvy. Offers Some of the available plans from Rogers' resellers are: Velcom 250 Mbps Down /

Canada’s Internet Speeds and Prices

Types of internet access providers Last summer we set out to analyze the status of the home internet connection speeds across the country. We picked fourteen representative major urban centers and analyzed factors such as maximum available download speed, average speed, and average monthly pricing. This analysis shows some very interesting facts, for example, while Albertans are expected to pay less for gas than, say, Ontarians. However, on average Albertans will be paying some $7 more than Ontarians per month for equivalent internet

Home Internet Services with no price hike

Rogers and Bell are at it. Home Internet prices are set to increase, yes, again. According to sources at Rogers and Bell, the price increase is due to investments in their respective networks. Though possible seems odd price hike is almost in unison. Rogers's price hike is effective March 12th and Bell's will be in April. These always seem to fall around the same time for the past few years. Typical Rogers's increase is $4 for plans with a download speed of

The Internet of Things

The last decade has seen the Internet evolve in leaps and bounds – specifically in technologies pertaining to the cloud, big data, and pay-for-play computing services. Amazon Web Services officially launched in 2006; prior to that, on-demand utility computing services were only prevalent in university labs and high-end enterprise data centers. These days, anyone can deploy and run a virtual data center in the cloud, as cloud computing pricing models allow customers to pay only for what they use, and
