Vaxxine is a telecommunications provider based out of St. Catherines which serves southwestern Ontario. Some services they provide include phone service, internet service, web development, domain names and web hosting.
For our review of Vaxxine, we will concentrate on their residential internet service and see how it stacks up with some of Gonevoip’s top three internet service providers.
Vaxxine offers high-speed cable and DSL internet packages ranging in price from $39.95 to $69.95.
The ‘Cable – Residential 15 MB’ plan comes in at $39.95 per month or $455.43 annually. It comes with ‘speeds’ of up to 15 MBPS and a monthly data usage cap of 200 GB.
The ‘Cable – Residential 40 MB’ plan checks in at $49.95 per month, which translates to $569.43 per year. This plan offers speeds of up 40 MBPS and 250 GB of data.
The ‘Cable – Residential 60 MB’ plan is $69.95 per month or $797.43 per year. It offers speeds of up to 60 MBPS,
Both the 15 MB and the 40 MB plans offer options to upgrade the data usage for an additional $20 and $30 respectively. The 60 MB plan, however, does not offer this option.
Vaxxine also has six DSL packages ranging in price from $33.95 to $65.95, with speeds ranging from 6 MBPS to 50 MBPS and 150 GB to 300 GB of data usage. All come with the option to make them unlimited for additional costs.
Using the cheapest of those plans, the ‘DSL – Residential’ can be acquired for $33.95 monthly with speeds of 6 MBPS and 150 GB of data. However, if you add an additional $6 you turn that plan into an unlimited plan for $39.95 total, which is probably their cheapest unlimited deal (including cable and DSL packages).
Their plans do not specify download and upload speeds, but rather state overall speeds. This makes it hard to accurately judge if both download and upload speeds are the same or if they are only referring to download speeds or if they are averaging download and speeds together. Needless to say, it is never a good sign when an internet service provider doesn’t provide full details on speeds offered.
Beyond the lack of clarity on speeds, Vaxxine also offers a plethora of one-time cable and DSL costs. The cable modem is $89.95 before taxes. The DSL modem is $69.95. The router is $39.95 for either DSL or cable. Then there are cable activation fees which vary depending on whether you are a Cogeco cable customer or not. Did we mention $10 monthly dry loop and static IP charges? The list goes on and on.
In our review of Vaxxine, we are left with a mixed bag on their overall plans, many of which are slightly expensive without offering much. But if you really analyze them, there are ways to get a good deal by turning them into unlimited options. For instance, the Cable Residential 40 MB plan could be increased to unlimited data usage with the 40 MB speeds for $79.95. That is a reasonable price for the value.
But when you consider all of the additional fees and one-time costs, any savings will be crushed away. Therefore we can't recommend Vaxxine.
