Manitoba Telecommunication Services or MTS for short was founded more than a century ago back in 1908. Since then they have enjoyed great economic growth and made strides in telecommunications technology. MTS headquarters can be found at 333 Main Street Winnipeg, Manitoba R3C 3V6 Canada.
MTS offers a wide variety of internet packages with download speeds ranging from 10 Mbps to a whopping 940 Mbps with upload speeds ranging from 2 Mbps to 100 Mbps. These plans are usually catered to specific clients depending on the needs of the customers. However, our focus will revolve around the residential plans that MTS has to offer.
MTS offers a plan they call the Fibe 10 plan, this plan offers download speeds of up to 10 Mbps and upload speeds of up to 2 Mbps. There is no bandwidth limit on this plan, and it costs a total of $67.95 per month. Unlimited plans are tricky to understand for numerous reasons, first off as a consumer you have to be aware of the amount of bandwidth you consume each month. Limited usage plans are usually much more inexpensive as compared to unlimited ones. SkyChoice offers a 7 Mbps plan with an upload speed of 1 Mbps for $24.99 and they implement a cap of 150 GB per month. If a customer deduces that his or her aggregate bandwidth consumption is far less than that, the unlimited plan holds no true value for them.
This plan, however, has a promotional price of $20.00 for the first three months which may redeem MTS by a small margin but not entirely. The unlimited aspect of the plan is not worth the money being charged by MTS. The average user consumption ranges from between 80 gigs to 150 gigs a month. A consumer can easily find other internet service providers who offer plans within this range for a much lower cost. Another example of an unlimited plan being priced right is the unlimited 7 Mbps plan of SunSonic which is priced at only $29.95 Furthermore we were unable to gain access to any additional charges of this plan considering they were not displayed on the website.
Contacting MTS about the additional charges via phone call did not help us either; we were turned away because of not being potential customers. Secrecy is not something a reputable internet service provider should work with.
MTS needs to dial down on the price of the unlimited package, or they can come up with limited internet plans to provide customers with a more economical alternative. With all things said and done the Fibe 10 plan that MTS offers do not bring enough to the table considering its high price tag.
