Velocity Networks was a telecommunications provider specializing in wireless high-speed internet service. Their service area covers a small portion in Alberta between Calgary and Banff. Velocity was acquired by Telus.

In GoneVoIP's review of Velocity Networks, we will see how their wireless internet service and packages stack up versus some of GoneVoIP top internet service providers.

Velocity has some cool features such as no data limits, no data contracts, and free installation. It is rare to find that combination being offered by too many companies anywhere in Canada, so that is an immediate bonus. They also offer "live" technical support seven days a week and the ability to pay your bill online via credit card or by cheque through the mail.

Velocity has four residential internet packages that range in price from $60 - $150 per month. All plans are offered with unlimited data usage.

  • The Advanced Pro checks in at $70 per month and offers download speeds of up to 5 MBPS and upload speeds of up to 1 MBPS.
  • The Extreme Pro goes up by $20 to $90 per month while doubling the speeds. The download speeds go up to 10 Mbps and the upload speeds fo up to 2 MBPS.
  • The next in line is the Ultimate Pro plan. The second most expensive plan at $110 per month, with the download, speeds increasing to 20 MBPS and upload speeds rising modestly to 3 MBPS.
  • Finally, the last addition is the Velocity Pro plan. Coming at $150 per month with a respectable download speed of 30 Mbps and upload still pegged at 3 Mbps. This plan reportedly is not available in all areas.

All plans include custom email protection and a monthly credit card auto-billing. They also state that online account management is available. Don't know why would that be a feature to boast but it seems it is important enough for them to advertise.

While they state that all plans are unlimited data usage, they also state that they reserve the right to limit usage if the customer's usage is excessive and negatively affects other customers.
And while they state an installation is free, it also states that some conditions may apply. Some of those conditions are actually pretty common situations such as running cable through crawl spaces or attics, or the installer not being able to finish in the three hour time frame they state the installation should take.

One cool feature they have is a 60-day money-back guarantee if for any reason you are unsatisfied with the service. Since the installation is free, then it definitely makes it easier to give them a try.

In concluding GoneVoIP's review of Velocity Networks, we are impressed with some of their cool features such as the free installation (when applicable), the lack of contracts, and what generally looks like an upfront company with nothing to hide.

As for the plans, they are catching up with the best Cable and Fibre plans, although we know rural areas don't get serviced the same way. It is nonetheless nice to see the growing standard of faster speeds and unlimited data usage, for rural and urban Canada alike.

Check them out and compare them with other local companies, as well as GonevoIP's top internet service providers.  The 60-day money-back guarantee combined with the relatively average prices of their plans and free installation definitely makes them a company worth considering.
