Pathcom was founded back in 1995 making its endeavour over two decades long now. Pathcom provides internet solutions to many different types of clients such as healthcare providers, oil and gas companies, financial services firms, and various government agencies. Pathcom’s headquarters can be found at 95 Apple Creek Blvd. Markham, Ontario L3R1C7 Canada. Pathcom holds pride in providing quality solutions to business owners in Canada, and they believe that as a business themselves they have an obligation to extend whatever services they can to other business across the country. However our review will cover the residential services that Pathcom has to offer!
Pathcom has a DSL plan they call FastPath Homenet, which has a download speed of 6 mbps per second and an upload speed of 800 kbps per second. These values are consistent with other various internet providers who offer basic residential internet plans. Furthermore this plan has a usage cap of 75 GBs per month which isn’t the greatest amount to offer. The plan costs a total of $24.99 for the first three months and then costs $39.95 subsequently. Ultimately the user would save $35.00 over the course of these three months which may not be worth it. The total for six months of usage of this plan would cost the user roughly $195. If compared to another prominent service provider like Skychoice which offers a 6mbps plan with a usage limit of 150 GBs and only charges $24.99 per month, we would notice a very steep price on part of Pathcom. SkyChoice would cost $150 in six month which is $45 less than Pathcom, and SkyChoice even offers double the bandwidth that Pathcom is offering.
A positive aspect we noticed about this plan was that it has no setup fee; however we also noticed something much worse. With the very low bandwidth that Pathcom is offering, there was absolutely no mention of an unlimited usage time! Unlimited usage time has become somewhat of a necessity for any limited bandwidth plan and Pathcom does not have that. Furthermore there was no mention of the overage charge on the Pathcom website, and upon numerous attempts to contact Pathcom about this, we have had no success.
The first three months of Pathcom service may seem very enticing, but in the long run it just is not worth it. The bandwidth limit is too small, and the price is too steep. There is no inclusion of unlimited usage times, and the overage charge remains a mystery. All in all there are far better options available across Canada for anyone looking for proper residential internet!
