Difficult support

Unfortunately I had technical issues out of the box. Their tech support staff were difficult to understand over the phone due to language barriers.

Constant billing and line problems

Every so often there is an extra charge on my credit card bill from Ooma and I have to call them to revers the unauthorized charge. In addition I've been having phone line problems for the longest time I have spoken to so many different people there and the problems keep resurfacing I'm at my Wit's End and will be changing soon

OMG OOMA!

Poor call quality, expensive proprietary hardware, and worst of all...poor poor customer service.

This was a total bust. There are BETTER VoIP companies out there...Took me awhile to find one and boy am I glad I switched and ported out from Ooma.

READ SOME REVIEWS PEOPLE!

Extremely Disappointed

I've been subscribing to Ooma for the past 5 years. Currently shopping for a better service. The only reason I didn't leave them earlier is because I've been lazy and kept postponing.

Despite their "crystal clear" advertising, the reality is quite the opposite. Obviously, when I called to complain they told me that it's not them, it's my internet being slow. Well, I upgraded my broadband internet speed to 3 times what I had before (for both upload and download) and guess what? The sound quality is still ... py.

We speak quite a bit overseas and we had numerous dropped calls, interrupted calls, calls where we couldn't understand each other. Ooma service is worse quality than what you can get in a third world country.

A couple of times something really weird happened, which cannot be attributed to my internet connection at all: I kept hearing the same two or three sentences (probably packets of data) over and over again.

Their local service is cheap (for a reason), but their international plan is not. What's revolting is that, while you use Ooma, you can't use a third party provider for long distance. We had one that was providing high quality sound but we were precluded from using them (Ooma is incompatible with any third party long distance provider). This is probably how the business model works: they hook you with the cheap local plan, but then they don't let you use any other company's long distance; you have to use their ... py and overpriced long distance. Sleazy!

Enough is enough! I'm done with them.

Please do yourself a favour and avoid this company at all cost !

They are Canadian. Small company with excellent customer service. Never going with these big corporate companies ever again.

Its just more of the same of what you are trying to get away from in the first place.

Feeling happy Happy Rating 👍

Excellent phone service

After finding I could not port my number to Magicjack I bought an OOMA system and installed it. Porting the number took a few days, but the service has been EXCELLENT for several years now. Bell could not give me a clean line - the reception on the OOMA is flawless. Have had several friends go with OOMA on my recommendation and they are all happy. I have the house phone wiring connected to the OOMA and also have an OOMA Phone connected to the network.

Ooma was founded in 2004, HQ in Palo Alto, CA. At one time saw Aston Kutcher (actor/producer) as their Creative Director. Kutcher left in 2008. The Ooma Telo is the next-generation device, was launched to the market in 2009. It's a sleek design, packed with features and Canada/US free calling.

As it is with other single box solutions you pay all up-front, in the case of Ooma you also have monthly minimal costs of around $3.50 in government taxes and other fees. Ooma premium option runs for $9.99 which introduces call blocking and other features like. The Ooma Basic services include voicemail, caller ID, 911 and 911 alerts.  Canadians can keep their existing number though for some reason Ooma insists with a porting fee of $39.99 unless you opt for Ooma Premium in which case the porting fee is waived. Ooma has a very reliable app, available for Android and iOS.

In the GoneVoIP review of Ooma Home Phone service, we find in Ooma's modern design pleasing aesthetics and generally providing good service for Canada's market. One of the key features that have always set apart Ooma is Voice Quality, it is one of the first providers to support High-Definition Calling. Also worth mentioning is that all calls are encrypted, essentially making Ooma Home Phone more secure than old landlines! Having said that, those looking for all Ooma premium features as part of the standard package and like to have the ability or freedom to have any ATA then providers such as VoIP Much may be a better fit.

Otherwise, one can buy the latest Ooma @ Amazon for $99.98 - shipping included. In conclusion, Ooma is a very functional device and an interesting value proposition for the Smart Home. Making Ooma and assertive alternative for the modern home phone.

How do you port your number to Ooma telo?

Use the online tool to determine if the telephone number can be ported, then submitted the port request. From the time the request was submitted to the actual port from Bell it took one week. Works great. No internet down time (have DSL and Bell had to dry loop it).

In my case just checked I could port it with them using their tool: http://ca.ooma.com/phone-number/ then just follow the prompts when activating your account. Will ask you for info of your existing phone number and provider.
