GoZoom.ca is a Canadian ISP with HQ in the McNab/Braeside area of Ontario.
GoZoom.ca offers DSL and wireless high-speed internet service, serving both Ontario and Quebec throughout the Ottawa River Corridor. We will review their plans and pricing and see how this ISP stacks compared with our top three Canadian ISP selections.
GoZoom.ca doesn’t offer plans with contracts which is a nice bonus. Furthermore, they do not charge customers for wireless site surveys – which we have always found to be one of the more ridiculous charges internet service providers charge customers for these days.
As CEO Ian Fraser points out on the GoZoom.ca “About Us” page on the website: “Why should I charge you just to tell you “No, you can’t get my product”? That’s wrong. I’d almost call it predatory because we (the ISP’s) know how badly some people want broadband and we know those people will gladly hand us $50 or $100 bucks just for a chance to get it.”
We couldn't agree more Ian. All ISPs know they can charge whatever fees they feel like charging, especially the more remote the area is.So let’s look at how the rest of their prices fare.
GoZoom.ca has six main plans available ranging from $44.95 to $66.95 The plans are all with unlimited usage. The download speeds go from 6 Mbps up to 50 Mbps. The upload speed goes from 0.8 Mbps up to 10 Mbps.
The most reasonable one would probably be the 6xUNL plan which gives you unlimited data usage with download speeds of 6 Mbps and upload speeds of up to 800 Kbps. This plan comes in at $44.95 with a one-time activation fee of $99.
While that plan seems to have the most bang for the buck, the fact is that you can go after GoZoom.ca’s most expensive plan for only $12 more at $66.95 per month. That plan, the one with 50 Mbps down and 10 Mbps up, gives you unlimited data usage as well, but with up to 50 Mbps download speeds and up to 10 Mbps upload speeds. This plan is the upper tier of plans, so it comes with a $229 activation fee as opposed to the lower tier activation fee of $99 available with the lower tier of plans. Still, if the increased speed is important to you, then we would have to recommend spending the few extra bucks on installation.
If money is not tight, we recommend going after the most expensive plan from GoZoom.ca With downloads of up to 50 Mbps with an unlimited data usage, you are only limited to by the hours of the day of what you can do!
If you have a DSL modem, then you are set. If you don’t, they provide one for a reasonable cost of $29.95. GoZoom.ca also has a promotion which grants existing customers one month of free service if they recommend a friend to GoZoom.ca.
Lastly to mention goZoom Wireless internet. It offers 7 plans in total; 4 for Home use and 3 for business use. The Home Wireless Internet starter plan comes with unlimited usage, 2.5 Mbps download and an upload of 1 Mbps for $39.95 - with a setup fee of $199. The top Home Wireless Internet plan is coming with 10 Mbps download, 1 Mbps upload and a usage cap at 300GB with a monthly cost of $89.95
Overall, our review of GoZoom.ca finds that they do have a good variety and reasonable prices. Though in comparison in dollars is often more expensive than Distributel or Altima Telecom. However, GoZoom does offer unlimited Wireless internet in exchange, the consumer shall consider if that extra bandwidth is worth the pricing and the penalty for a lower speed. Setup prices are comparatively high; we wish goZoom reduces these as to enhance affordability of the plans.
