GoZoom.ca is a Canadian ISP with HQ in the McNab/Braeside area of Ontario.
GoZoom.ca offers DSL and wireless high speed internet service, serving both Ontario and Quebec throughout the Ottawa River Corridor. We will review their plans and pricing and see how this ISP stacks compared with our top three Canadian ISP selections.
GoZoom.ca doesn’t offer plans with contracts which is a nice bonus. Furthermore, they do not charge customers for wireless site surveys – which we have always found to be one of the more ridiculous charges internet service providers charge customers for these days.
As CEO Ian Fraser points out on the GoZoom.ca “About Us” page on the website: “Why should I charge you just to tell you “No, you can’t get my product”? That’s wrong. I’d almost call it predatory because we (the ISP’s) know how badly some people want broadband and we know those people will gladly hand us $50 or $100 bucks just for a chance to get it.”
We couldn't agree more Ian. All ISPs know they can charge whatever fees they feel like charging, especially the more remote the area is.So let’s look at how the rest of their prices fare.
GoZoom.ca has six main plans available ranging from $39.95 to $51.95. These are broken into three tiers: the 6X plans, the 7X plans and the 10x plans.
The most reasonable one would probably be the 6xUNL plan which gives you unlimited data usage with download speeds of 6 Mbps and upload speeds of up to 800 Kbps. This plan comes in at $44.95 with a one-time activation fee of $69.
While that plan seems to have the most bang for the buck, the fact is that you can go after GoZoom.ca’s most expensive plan for only $7 more at $51.95 per month. That plan, called the 10XUNL, gives you unlimited data usage as well, but with up to 10 Mbps download speeds and up to 1 Mbps upload speeds. This plan is the upper tier of plans, so it comes with a $168 activation fee as opposed to the lower tier activation fee of $69 available with the lower tier of plans. Still if the increased speed is important to you, than we would have to recommend spending the few extra bucks on installation.
If money is tight, the most inexpensive plan GoZoom.ca offers is called the 6x300 and it comes in at $39.95. Being the lower tier plan, the activation fee is only $69 and it still has the same speeds as the 6xUNL plan. However, instead of the unlimited data you are limited to 300 GB per month.
If you have a DSL modem, then you are set. If you don’t, they provide one for a reasonable cost of $29.95. GoZoom.ca also has a promotion which grants existing cutomers one month of free service if they recommend a friend to GoZoom.ca.
Overall, our review of GoZoom.ca finds that they do have reasonable prices. Though in comparisson about ten dollars more expensive than Yak and TekSavvy- however GoZoom does offer more bandwidth in exchange, consumer shall consider if that extra bandwidth is worth the delta in pricing.
