EbTech Reviews and Plans
|Promo Plan Speeds|
Ebtech was founded in 1994 and has come a long way in the past two decades in terms of providing a vast array of services to the population of South-western Ontario. They offer services ranging from computer repairs, website designing and hosting, DSL internet and wireless internet as well. Ebtech claims to be unmatched in terms of providing customer service and support. A disappointing factor about Ebtech’s website we noticed was the lack of specifications of their internet plans. Information like that needs to be provided upfront without the need for any further investigation. Let us now review one of Ebtech’s basic residential plans to gauge how well they would contend against other prominent internet service providers.
Ebtech offers a basic DSL plan which comes with download speeds of up to 5 Mbps and upload speeds of up to 800 kbps. The plan is offered at an unlimited transfer rate and costs a total of $39.99 per month. The brutal truth is that many service providers who have access to South-western Ontario offer much better deals. For example, Worldline offers a 6 Mbps plan with upload speeds of up to 1 Mbps, at unlimited bandwidth usage for only $29.99. Marginally higher speed with a substantially lower price is something that Ebtech is dealing with when competing with Worldline. Furthermore, TekSavvy offers a 7 Mbps plan with upload speeds of up to 1 Mbps and a cap of 150 GB for only $27.99 per month. It seems that the unlimited aspect of Ebtech’s plan is being used as a means to gouge out more money from the customers' wallet when the fact of the matter is that the average household requires about 70 GB per month.
A few positive things we noticed about Ebtech's additional charges were the activation fees and dry loop charges. The dry loop charges are $5.00 per month, which is half of the usual price we see being implemented by other service providers. The activation fees are non-existent which is certainly a great deal. However, both of these aspects aren’t quite enough to redeem Ebtech from the above-average pricing rates. No mentions were made as to whether or not Ebtech engages in bandwidth throttling, so we can give them the benefit of the doubt in this regard.
In all honesty, Ebtech needs to tone down the pricing of its plan to better match the competition they are up against. Consumers in today’s world are highly researched based and look into every possible option before opting for any specific service!
