EBox (formerly known as Electronic Box) was an internet provider based in Montreal Rive-Sud in the City of Longueuil, QC. Established in 1997. EBox was acquired by Bell in 2022. It reports it will continue servicing customers in Ontario and Quebec.
EBox is known for their Internet packages. In terms of VoIP home phone offering ElectronicBox plans fall in the same as other Canadian ISPs doing VoIP, having a high price-tag for far too little features and having austere calling plans.
For instance, looking at EBox's calling plans they have defined "Zones" a term that is largely part of telecommunications past. Nowadays standard is to offers Canada & US or even World calling.
The Home Phone does have some of the typical features you expect. For example, Voicemail to email notification, Caller ID, and Call Waiting.
Even when you get two services with EBox's Internet the VoIP/Digital Home Phone monthly pricing is on the high end @ $19.95 or with long-distance (72 countries included) at the $29.95. It is very odd to see that there is actually not a single discount when the Home Phone and Internet services are bundled!
Shall be noted the VoIP line offers Basic 911 support at this time, please check in this article as there are differences to be noted with regards to Basic 911 and E911. The main difference with Basic 911 is that the address is not passed or sent automatically when making a call to the 9-1-1 service. The person making the call has to provide that in the information.
In summary in our opinion alternatives like Phone Power or VoIPo has a more mature & cheaper service than Ebox's Home Phone. Ebox's strength is on providing unlimited Home Internet connectivity. They will be better off dedicating efforts to grow that particular side of the business.
