ColbaNet Reviews & Service Offerings

Colbanet is an ISP provider HQ in Montreal, QC. As many of the Canadian ISPs beyond Internet High Speed, it also offers a VoIP Home Phone and IPTV.
As with many of the ISPs VoIP implementation is on the simpler side; the usual VoIP features such as Voicemail, Caller ID & Call Waiting. One of the nice features Colbanet adds is the feature to block numbers, so these directly when detected won't ring. Nice to have when wanting to reduce unwanted calls. We were not able to check if there is a limit for the numbers one can block, we just hope is high enough.
Unfortunately, Colbanet does not have BYOD support and offers for sale a couple of internet modems to bundle up with its VoIP service. Their ATA is $59.95 - though you don't know what you get. At least from the website, it doesn't show what it is, nor if there are other options.
The long-distance rates, while much cheaper than the traditional telecom providers are slightly more expensive than those of the ToP Long Distance Providers.
The monthly pricing is among the highest we have seen in the market and we must consider this does not factor Canadian & US long distance rates. There is no smartphone nor desktop app available either.
Thus we believe for a VoIP Home Phone one may look at getting the internet from Colbanet but use Phone Power or Yak, who are much cheaper alternatives and since these focus on offering VoIP Home Phone have a very comprehensive set of features.
