Setup Fee Long Distance Rates

babyTel was a telecommunications solutions provider, established in 1991 and HQ in Montreal, QC. babyTel was rebranded as Cloudli in late 2020.

In our Cloudli Review, we found the plans to have a good set of features, such as Do-Not-Disturb, Caller ID Block, and Voicemail-to-Email. It also is one of the few VoIP providers to list Home Alarm support. We looked at the world calling plan, mainly because is the one which also provides the integration with a smartphone's app.  When combined with the Home Phone the app works as an extension giving the typical flexibility of carrying just one phone number.

We found the rates for the monthly plans to be among the most expensive in the market. The world calling plan allows free calling to 60-countries. While the plans say it's unlimited in the terms of service Clouli does state it's subject to fair usage; though it says it will compare use against others that have the same plan it does not report the limit in terms of minutes - a bit strange as the majority of providers nowadays do report it. Another good thing Clouli as implemented is that if you want to use your own ATA you will have to use one of the 14 ATAs Cloudli has approved. We can venture this is so it is easier to support, but it does restrict choices as for example Clouli only works with certain models of Linksys and OBIHAI no Grandstream at all.  Finally, you also have a hefty one-time setup fee.

In case you do not opt for the world calling plan, you'll still be faced with the setup fee, the international calling rates are good but not exceptional. When compared to other long-distance providers such as Localphone we found these are usually twice as expensive or more.

In a nutshell, Cloudli home phone does have some very good features and seems to back up with the good technology behind the offering. Though pricing and some lack of clarity in the services - such how many minutes have the unlimited plans before triggering an action by fair usage? -  make for an unappealing home phone solution.

Simply put, it is a modern look of the home phone though the savvy consumer knows there are cheaper and there is better service just a click away.
