ATTENTION: As of August 2015 Brama Telecom folded operations.
Brama Telecom was a broadband telecommunications provider with HQ in Toronto.
But was Brama's high-speed DSL internet service also up to par? That’s what we hope to find out.
Brama Telecom serves the provinces of Ontario and Quebec. They have a great website which is easy-to-use and organized efficiently. Which is a plus as it is always discouraging when you have to search for 30 minutes to find out a simple answer.
Brama had offered a plan which features download speeds of up to 10 Mbps, upload speeds of up to 1 Mbps, and 300 GB of monthly usage for $34.95. Additionally, dry loop fees and hardware rental feels pushes the monthly bill up to closer to $50 a month, depending on exactly where you are located. Yet even more additional fees pop up and include a hardware security deposit of $69.95, shipping of the modem costs at $19.95 and the actual internet installation at another $99.95. With tax, that puts your one-time-payment at $248.43 before you pay any monthly costs.
So while the monthly fee was favourable with Brama Telecom, the installation fees were quite high. Still, it is worth noting that most packages offered by Brama telecom were much faster than the average speeds which Gonevoip had seen at the time. Maybe the reason was false advertising and one of the main culprits in the fall of Brama Telecom.
Brama Telecom did have a few reviews on gonevoip and the opinion, in general, was fairly negative with 82% negative reviews. Some few customers thought the service was good and were content enough, others were and are very vocal about the dislike. Customers who were satisfied rate all the categories highly, those who were or are disappointed seem to have the biggest gripes about odd invoicing, quality of the services rendered and customer service often sited as either absent or rude. If you have experience with this provider then please complete gonevoip's review form to add your ratings and comments using the links on this page. Earlier in the same year that Brama folded the BBB had removed as an accredited business. Also, other Partners, such as VMedia had stop working with Brama due to oustanding owing balances. Also, note on July 31, 2015, the CCTS (Canadian Comissioner for Complaints for Telecom Services) released a notice denouncing that Brama was in breach of obligations to customers and to CCTS. You can read the CCTS circular here
As often happens when providers cease operations subscribers may be left stranded. But not to panic; as there are ways out. Chose a reputable provider for Canada's Residential Home Phone and request the transfer of your existing phone number. Also, check Canada's Top Internet Providers and plan your next move. Majority of the service providers nowadays can complete the transfer for free. In general, the Home Phone number transfer is completed within 10-business days.
In light of Brama Telecom closing; the question you must ask yourself is, “is everything that shines real?" You can never ask too few questions to a providers, your hard earned dollars are at stake!

Internet ServiceOne of the best companies on this market (comparing their rates).
I couldn't get installed high-speed internet with their competitor for a few weeks, Brama team was very serponsive and got me going withih one week. Their helpdesk might be better thought.
