After some early ... ps, service excellent

Had issues with initial two phone line setup and subsequent phone call quality, however it turned out to be Rogers internet issues. once sorted out, the ACN service has been greatly improved. Would consider switching to phonepower for a lower cost, however not sure I want any more troubles with switching phones. For now, I will stay with ACN.

Would have been nice to know that I was in a fixed contract, when I changed over to your phone service; otherwise happy with the service.

Review from

ACI hosted VOIP service is awful. I have long forgot the simplicity of making a phone call and deeply regret switching my Nortel phone system to ACI VOIP. A phone call is not a phone call when the conversation constantly drops words. What junk, what a waste of time. ACI support will drag you on for hours questioning your network as the fault and explaining how you are the only customer reporting any issues (over 20 calls to ACI, countless emails, over 10 hours of wasted time in 2 years complaining). We use other VOIP services such as GOTOMEETING that work flawlessly. You will need to add _pardon me_, _please repeat that_, _sorry_ to every single conversation. Do not even think about switching your phone system to this horrible service, you will not save money and your customers will begin to hate you for being so stupid as to wasting their time for using this mock telephone technology!

ACN is a global telecommunications conglomerate providing services in North America, Europe, and the Asia Pacific. ACN was established in 1993 with Head Quarters in Concord, North Carolina. ACN's Canadian office is in Montreal, Quebec.

ACN has two Digital Home Phone plans:

  • The World Plan Calling to 80+ countries coming at a whopping $29.99  providing unlimited calling minutes. The service does come with some 18 features, such as Caller ID and Voicemail. Shall be noted the unlimited minutes in this plan do not apply if calling to Bangladesh, the minutes are then limited to 1,500 minutes.
  • The Word Plan Plus Calling to 130+ countries at $44.99 - same features as the World Plan

Both ACN plans are subject to the Acceptable Use Policy. Which based on close examination it reads:

"If you subscribe to ACN's Digital Phone Service, you will be limited to three simultaneous calls under this Service with a maximum duration of 6 hours per call each, after which time the call(s) will be disconnected. The Service is subject to a limit of 3,000 minutes in aggregate during each monthly billing cycle for outgoing, inclusive of local and long-distance calls anywhere in the U.S., Canada, and Puerto Rico and for calls to international countries specified in ACN International Calling Plans."

So not a truly unlimited plan per se, and maybe more limited depending on where you are calling.

If we compare this plan to Phone Power, for example, we found ACN to be more expensive and lacks some of the refined features. For example, being able to receive the fax as PDFs documents.

Their world calling Digital Home Phone service plan is on the very expensive spectrum, it includes the same 3,000 minutes to over 80 worldwide destinations.

For either plan, ACN implements a barrage of fees. For example, you may get ACN Premium Technical Support $14.99 a month. These fees could be waived if you transfer your phone number.

In all, we give kudos to ACN for being upfront with regards to the high flying fees it implements. But on the other hand, fees add-up and are not competitive in today's home phone market. Simply put, there's better and there's cheaper.
