Kelcom Net is a veteran in the world of telecommunications having been founded way back in 1969. They’ve had a long stint in providing VoIP and internet services across Canada. They also offer security solutions as well as having their own call center division. Many of Kelcom’s competitors are up and coming internet service providers from the last decade, thus they are well versed in what they need to bring to the table to offer the right competition. The headquarters of Kelcom can be found at 363 Eugenie Street East Windsor, ON N8X 2Y2 Canada. Let us now review one of Kelcom’s flagship internet plans provided to residential users!

Kelcom offers a basic residential plan which comes with download speeds of up to 6 mbps and upload speeds that have not been mentioned. This plan is offered at an unlimited bandwidth usage, and the pricing is where everything becomes somewhat difficult. To opt into the lowest price that Kelcom has to offer in this plan, the customer must bind themselves into a 12 month agreement. The price of the contract would be $29 per month, and without the contract, the price would skyrocket to $39 per month. Both of these prices are asking for way too much for the services being offered. Distributel offers a residential plan that comes with download speeds of up to 6 mbps, and upload speeds of up to 1 mbps at an unlimited bandwidth usage for only $29.95. The prices that Kelcom is imposing are not as competitive, and in our humble opinion, on the expensive side.

The cancellation fees of this plan are $50.00, so if someone is not satisfied with their service after a month or two of installation, they’ll be paying a hefty amount to get out of the agreement. The dry-loop fees they are implementing are also a tad bit expensive at $12.95 per month; the installation fee is $49. The terms and conditions page of their services is currently inaccessible and we can only speculate as to whether this service is affected by bandwidth throttling.

Kelcom is a veteran service provider but it seems that years of providing the same service has not provided them with enough insight to offer competitive pricing. Offering lower prices to entice customers into long contractual agreements is a tactic that is very common in the internet services world, and is frowned upon by many.
