Reply to: Altima Telecom
My partner and I did our research and despite seeing some concerns about customer service from other users, decided to give Altima a try.

We have cancelled our service after a year and a half of constant frustration. The TV and internet service was uneven to say the least. We noticed that TV and internet service went off during peak live programs (eg. Grey Cup) or events (English language debates). We resigned ourselves to missing these important events because getting a technician to respond in a timely way was close to impossible (one is put on hold for long periods - often more than 30 minutes); when the technician did respond, the advice given was, for the most part, wrong (we purchased an extender, which we now realize from a techie we paid to find out what was going on with our internet, was useless) or of no value added (unplug the equipment and plug it it again, or use the paper clip to reset - which meant that we lost heat as our Nest was connected to wifi).

Once we cancelled the TV, our internet service declined significantly; we were having to unplug the router every 10 minutes, with a lengthy start up, which meant we missed important live events. Disgusted, we started looking for a more reliable service provider that provided quality service, including visits if problems persist.

When we called to cancel, we were cut off, put on hold for 40 minutes and, after hanging up and calling back, put on hold again for another 20 minutes. We finally got a person who we had to beg, literally beg, to terminate our service and to NOT put us on hold.

We would NEVER recommend Altima to anyone, not even our worst enemy.

It is too bad, as there is need for competition as the big 5 are charging the highest fees for internet in the OECD. Yet, finding another service provider that does NOT use the equipment of the big 5 is next to impossible, which means that these small companies are hostage to the systems of the big 5. That being said, if these small firms are interested in breaking into this lucrative market, they must put quality customer service first. That was not evident in most of the dealings we had with Altima, not evident in the least.
