Unstable internet

For many month have spoken to several technicians regarding very slow speed between 7-11 pm every evening. They troubleshoot with me and assure me the problem is fixed. The next day, the very same problem again. I'm getting very frustrated and seriously considering another IP. They've sent me replacement routers and modems, but even that hasn't solved the problem.

Great Product & Customer Service

I was skeptical and asked the order tech why such bad reviews but decided to give Primus Internet (Canada) a go!

Their modem and gateway arrived in less than 2 business days. I plugged it all in (power, and coax) and to my pleasure all the lights lit up green.

Speeds are a little faster than my promised plan of 75gb/s and for $29.99 + $10 (modem & gateway free) a month introductory. you cannot beat it with the bigger companies bloated prices.

I live in an apartment and its obvious someone had cable internet or tv here before. But I am very happy to give 5 stars after using it. Thank you Primus Canada !!

Distributel acquired Primus in January of 2021.

Primus was established in 1997, is HQ in Toronto, ON. Primus provides long distance, VoIP, Internet and POTS for residential and business use.

Primus was bought by York Capital Management in July of 2013. In the United States Primus operates under the brand name Lingo.  Primus went through a major business transformation, which saw Primus get a new CEO in January of 2014.

Primus Home Internet Plans are all unlimited and offer a good array of varied speeds. Though Primus being a close mimic to Bell or Rogers Home Internet plans, does suffer from the same high monthly fees and contract traps. Primus does offer a 2-year guarantee of reduced pricing. After the 2-year term prices go up to $10 / month. There is no option to use an aftermarket modem, so you'll have to get it from Primus, either buy or rental There is also a $59.95 one time installation fee.

Below we detail all of Primus Home Internet plans available in Ontario.

  • 15 Mbps Down, 10 Mbps Up at $44.95/month
  • 25 Mbps Down, 10 Mbps Up at $34.95/month
  • 50 Mbps Down, 10 Mbps Up at $34.95/month
  • 75 Mbps Down, 10 Mbps Up at $39.95/month
  • 150 Mbps Down, 15 Mbps Up at $69.95/month
  • 300 Mbps Down, 30 Mbps Up at $74.95/month
  • 500 Mbps Down, 30 Mbps Up at $74.95/month
  • 1 Gbps Down, 30 Mbps Up at $79.95/month

Primus applies Performance Management to the network, sometimes known as traffic shaping, as per Primus statements this is active at all times and shall be transparent to the end-user. Though the priority is supposed to kick-in when congestion is detected this could impact the user experience, more so when multiple devices in one home are using the internet connection.

In all Primus, the Home Internet offers unlimited access, it does pack extra protection (antivirus & antispam) but the fact is that monthly is more expensive when compared to Altima, Carry or CIK Telecom for example. More so when looking at these added fees. Also, note it does not support using other than their own branded modems. A big limitation for those wanting to use their own modem, and avoid the modem trap.

Who provides network coverage to Primus? Is it Bell or Rogers?

This depends on the area, it could be either or maybe neither and it is Cogeco or EastLink...

I am a primus customer to upgrade from 25 mbs to 50 mbs do I need a new modem

Hello, It looks like you are using the DSL network (provided by Bell) in that case the existing modem should work. In any event, since you'll be doing the switch you may want to upgrade the Wi-Fi modem at the same time. Cheers, The GoneVoIP Team.
