Hotlink Wireless is a wireless internet service provider which serves Edmonton and the surrounding area. Gonevoip will review Hotlink Wireless and we will examine their residential wireless internet packages and determine the full cost of their services including any additional fees.
Hotlink Wireless HQ is in Spruce Grove, Alberta. Hotlink Wireless advertises themselves as the provider that gives you the highest capacity wireless network in all of Alberta.
Hotlink Wireless offers a basic residential plan which costs $49.95 per month and allows for 20 GB of data usage and up to 6 Mbps download speed. Hotlink Wireless does not advcertise their upload speeds.
Hotlink also offers higher-tiered plans including the Soho plan, the Pro plan and the Commercial plan.
The Soho plan costs $69.95 and comes with 50 GB of monthly data usage and up to 6 Mbps download speed capability.  The Pro plan comes in at $89.95 per month and includes 100 GB of data usage and up to 6 Mbps of download speeds.
The Commercial plan is $109.95 per month and includes 150 GB of data usage and up to 6 Mbps download speeds. However, it is stated separately that Hotlink is now offering 20 MB/s speeds in select areas on the commercial package. All of the packages are available with either no term, a one-year term, a two-year term or a three-year term. However, the length of term determines the installation fee.
If you sign up for no term, the installation fee will be $450. If you choose the one-year option, the installation fee is $350. If you choose the two-year term, the cost drops to $275. The three-year term gives you the cheapest installation fee at $200. Included in the installation is a backup dialup connection in the event of severe weather or some other event which temporarily slows downs service. You do need to own a modem for this feature.
Hotlink Wireless gives you the option of enabling speed throttling which reduces the speed of your connection to just above dial-up when you reach your data allowance for the month. This is a neat feature as it is better than receiving overage charges and still allows you to use the internet for basic uses such as checking emails and basic web browsing.
Hotlink Wireless markets itself as a green company and by sending all invoices, statements, and receipts electronically, they offer a green discount to customers. Hotlink reduces the recurring service fee by $5 if you opt for making payments via credit card. Hotlink Wireless also offers free site surveys.
Our review of Hotlink Wireless concludes that their basic residential internet service plan at $49.95 is very expensive compared to Gonevoip’s Top 3 ISPs of TekSaavy, Yak and Worldline and it only gives you a modest 20 GB of data usage. When you add the pricey installation fee, especially if you are signing up with no contract, it seems excessively high.
