GTA Telecom is a relatively young entrant in the Canadian ISP space. Debuted in June 2017. GTA Telecom covers the areas of the Greater Toronto Area and Greater Montreal. The head office of GTA Telecom is in Markham, Ontario.
Let us focus now on the home Internet plans from GTA Telecom.
We shall start by saying all of GTA Telecom internet plans are with unlimited usage. We shall add there are in total 7 internet plans, 5 Cable internet and 2 Fibre Internet. Below we review the main characteristics of all plans.
- 40 Mbps Down / 10 Mbps Up
- Monthly $29.95
- 60 Mbps Down / 10 Mbps Up
- Monthly $39.95
- 75 Mbps Down / 10 Mbps Up
- Monthly $39.95
- 120 Mbps Down / 10 Mbps Up
- Monthly $59.95
- 150 Mbps Down / 10 Mbps Up
- Monthly $49.95
As GTA Telecom serves on the footprint of Rogers and Cogeco cable networks, depending on your area is the speeds you'll get.
For all plans there is a $10 flat-rate shipping anywhere within the greater Toronto area, Montreal area was not listed.
You can use your own compatible modem if you prefer. Please note that you will need to provide GTA Telecom with the MAC Address and Serial Number for your modem during the registration process.
For example, the following modems are compatible for use with the Cable 150 Internet Plan: Cisco DPC3848N, Cisco DPC3848V, Hitron CDA3 and Technicolor DPC3848V
If you don't have a modem you can get a free rental, with a $59 deposit. Also, you can buy a Wi-Fi router for $69 or rent one for $5.95 per month. Or use your own.
The two FTTN plans are from the Bell network. Though unfortunately are from the older Bell network, so speeds are not as fast. The FTTN packages offer 50 Mbps Down / 10 Mbps Up at $44.95 The lower tier FTTN package is 25 Mbps Down / 10 Mbps Up at $39.95. You can get your own vDSL modem/home router or get one rent-free, which again is $59 for a ZTE Home Gateway.
In all GTA Telecom Home Internet does offer competitive alternatives for the users in the GTA area. The FTTN packages are less attractive, one certainly wonders why even bother to offer these. Though the reality is that in certain markets and areas is the only way to get highspeed internet.
